In Africa, there was slavery from one people group to the other and Africans sold other Africans to one another and to the Arabs in N Africa. From there, and through the Portuguese colonization of the western coast of Africa, the African slave trade began to spread (with the cooperation of other Africans).

The African Slave trade had been going on for 1000's of years before Europeans could even fart straight. Stop looking at every one else for an excuse to your situation.
