DigInfo - http://movie.diginfo.tv - As a noninvasive technology, MRI, magnetic resonance imaging, has huge potential and Toshiba Medical Systems is hoping to advance this process with their Vantage using Atlas Speeder RF intergrated coil system and Time-SLIP technology. MRIs send a radio frequency pulse into the atoms of the body forcing them to spin differently which allows the coil to create an image of the internal organs. "The Atlas Speeder coil can take a whole body image without moving the coil." Along with the new coil, Toshiba is also developing Time-SLIP technology to make MRI imaging safer and easier for the patient. "The device takes pictures of the circulatory system and spinal cord fluid without the use of contrast agents." Currently mildly toxic elements such as gadolinium are injected to create a sharper higher contrast image but is dangerous for patients with weak kidneys. With Time-SLIP technology these contrast agents aren't needed.
