@EmilyA1984 I see your point, and I would do it differently too. But in Highland Dancing when I was five, we got smarties, but that didn't stop it being fun and interesting, and it didn't mask the pride at achieving the steps. So I don't think the two are necessarily mutually exclusive :)
HI! I liked the other group class where they played in the key of A. Also the camera work was good in that clip. It's harder for the beginners to play in the dey of D. But if they teacher is going to start in a different key she should announce it and then have only those who know it in that key to play. But at least they are all playing!!
wow. i'm WAY impressed. I wish I could find a group suzuki class in my area for my 2 year old Oliver! I live in chicago and have never heard of such a thing. I have to look more...
I liked all of that, except for the part where the teacher bribed the kids with Smarties. The way I see it, there are so many intrinsic rewards to music, that offering candy as a reward just seems unnecessary, and even counter-productive. After all, do you want a child to think, "I should practice my music so I get Smarties at Suzuki," or "I want to practice my music because it's beautiful and interesting?"
