http://www.apparelyzed.com Presents: When at the bottom of the escalator, once the chair is level, sit upright, and push backwards off the escalator. Be carefull there isn't a small ridge on the floor of the escalator as you push off, as this could tip you backwards. If there is a ridge on the floor, lean forwards as you push backwards to stop your wheelchair tipping.

If doing this for the first time, make sure someone is behind you to help, never try this for the first time without help.

  • @turbotoys if it stops midway, you roll yourself down the stairs like you would any set of stairs (there's ample videos on here showing you how to do that) I went up one today for the first time. Super easy, I was really suprised. After doing both escalators in a wheelchair and prior to wheelchair, I'd be more scared of being "shreded" if riding an escalator without a chair

& thanks so much for the how to videos Apparelyzed!!!!!!!

  • im scared to do it

  • if u have someone to back u up it okay

  • How do you do that? i have been in a WC ffor 2 months now and would like to learn that.

  • Just don't do what this guy did!

    watch?v=xyPylMzgoFk

  • hahha no way. man I didn't know you could do that in a WC

  • Me and my friends go down and up the escalator all the time. Its faster then waiting on an elevator. How about you try to be in a wheelchair for a week or so and see if you want to wait on a elevator. Escalators are for every one.

  • i guess u are not in a wheelchair yourself. But if you are i guess you dont get out much lol

  • And bulls either, but that's how you become a cowboy I'm told...*grin* You should try a wheelchair for your brain!

  • then we have a problem. you're right, its potentially dangerous but a wheelchair just isnt the safest way to travel around but if you're in one you don't really have a choice. I live in europe and over here lots of places just arent accessible so we have to improvise if we wanna be independent (are you in a wc?)

    no offense
