Ruth Sheldon was the Granby Town Clerk in Oswego County, NY. When the State Legislature passed same-sex "marriage" legislation, Ruth knew that her religious convictions would not allow her to sign those "marriage" licenses. Believing she had no other option, she resigned. This is her story.

  • Good for you for resigning when you no longer felt you could perform the job as required.

While I completely disagree with your interpretation and application of the Bible on this issue, I respect your courage of conviction combined with your willingness to step down rather than letting your religious views oppress others. Thank you.

  • Ruth -- thank you for your courage; how terrible that this law was forced on all of us; Christians truly do outnumber those who are destroying our country with these laws. God will bless you for standing up for your beliefs!

  • I will bet any thing this message will be looked over first.

  • I'm touched by your courage, and I feel very grateful for the bravery and convictions of all of you in these positions, standing up as Daniels of today.
