RWMWD and the Sorensen Lab at the Uof MN are in the midst of a carp study in the Phalen Chain of lakes. These partners, along with the expertise of a commercial fishing outfit, conducted a major seining event on Lake Gervais (Little Canada, MN) in January of 2010 .This is part of a population study being conducted on the chain, and will be repeated in 2011. In 2011 the carp will NOT be released back into the lake. This video shows the 'purse' of the net, where the bulk of tha catch is collected. Over 3500 carp were captured in this effort. • I also live there. Looks like they were removing some of the game fish from the nets? Hopefully putting them back down the hole! I'd love to see this live, and have always wondered what monsters they must pull out of those nets.

  • @tygeb The game fish were indeed returned to the lake. We will be seining again next winter, and notify interested folks through the lake association. To learn more about the project and see photos of the enormous muskie we released, visit our website - rwmwd.org. Thanks for your interest!
