@Addiskrilla Well, when you are writing a song, and you want the verses to rhyme, sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and they probably couldn't figure out a way to make it work with "Virginia" in there somewhere. I haven't tried to figure that out myself, maybe somebody else could do it and write another verse to it or something. I don't think for one minute that anyone will seriously think of "Dixie" without including Virginia in it.

@Addiskrilla Absolutely. Virginia was the home of Robert E. Lee. Richmond was the capitol of the Confederate States during most of the war.

@LumberSree Well, I am glad that there is at least one college somewhere that is not afraid to be connected with Dixie and say so. I went to a big southern university and when I started there in 1968, the school band was called the "Dixie Redcoat Band" and then a few years later they changed it to the "Redcoat Band", removed "Dixie" from the name, just to appease the politically correct crowd.

@Addiskrilla Yessir... yessir it does!

@LumberSree Interesting. The chorus of the song was the melody of my high school fight song in the 1960s and 70s. I did not know until doing a search tonight that there was more to the song than just the chorus. I'm not sure why but the song faded out over the years but a group of us from that era will be going to homecoming to sing it again.

Does Virginia count too?
