Annette Lajon - Pourquoi t'en aller , Pathé 1942

NOTE: Anette LAJON b. 1901 in Paris. She begun her career as operatic singer (Mezzo) in „Carmen" ( l'Opéra Comique, 1934) where she met the influential composer and music critic, Reynaldo Hahn. He convinced her to devote herself to the lighter singing, so after a while of touring in the province with the less serious repertoire, which she presented to the public in Toulouse or Marseille - finally she recorded her first hits: „Étranger», «Mon cœur est léger», «Trop de soirs ont passé» or «C'est le plaisir que j'aime», receiving in 1936 Le Grand Prix Du Disque for "L'Etranger". During WWII she sung and recorded solo or with Maurice Chevalier. Sh edied in 1984.

  • Merci!

  • Thank you so much, 240252! Very sweet tango! I am just a Swede, and "we" have been sitting back just watching the wars going on since 2008. Forgive me, I didn't know a thing! But I believe lots of those German soldiers only had to do their things like the Americans in Vietnam and Iraq. Had they no human feelings, no loving, no yearning for sweet music and culture and passion and harmony?? Let's forget about it all and enjoy the sweet and happy moments that still remain!!

  • La second querre mondiale..........pourqoui?

    C' est triste mais magnifique.

  • Merci for returning me to Paris, where I just visited.

Yes, despite its lingering magnificence I couldn't help thinking about the city's tragic "underside." Especially those "spas" for the Jews like Drancy. And the Normandy beaches, which remind me of the poignancy pf "La Mer."

  • I love Paris. I did get to go there in 1979. This video is interesting because it is about WWII.

  • This is a significant and haunting video. I love the music too.

  • A poignant and moving upload. Life always goes on pleasantly while horrible things happen. Is this a special tribute to B who is now in Paris?

  • The life in France was not easy as on these photos of the Parisian bourgeoisie. 85.000 Resistance fighters and 75.000 Jews were in the nazis camps. ( Without counting the tens of thousand deaths in bombardments). No, the life was not easy, for all French people, with hard limitation and rationing, until 1950s. But it's true that the Jews were the most suffered.

  • It is nice to see the "suffering" of most French men and women. The only ones who really suffered were the jews.

  • Some of these photos still send a shiver down the spine! The women with those German soldiers; what did they think the outcome of such a liason could possibly be?
