No,it wasn't. Yes,the gore was excessive. But hello,that is the whole purpose of gore.
As for the calling this crap. You have to see it next to The Beyond and things make much more sense.

This movie wasn't your typical zombie movie. For one thing these zombies could teleport.
Second this was all about the atmosphere. The gore was a bonus.

Yeah,sure. First of all you spelled Italian wrong. And second Demons 1 and 2 is only a fraction of Italian cinema. The Good,The Bad and The Ugly is Italian also. La vita è bella,1900.Profondo Rosso,Once Upon a Time in America.Once upon a time in the west,to name but a few.

@nahnahdgaf Dude...are you fucking serious? If so...are you fucking retarded?!!! This movie was shot and edited pre-1980...If anybody copied, it was the producers of the Lady Gaga videos! ("I CANT STAND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!") I can't stand you're ignorance, do some research, or at least think before you comment! and @CCZilla, you are correct, but you can find some versions here in the U.S. with the "City of the Living Dead" title.

Actually, "The Gates of Hell" was the name given to the film by its US distributor.
