The American Psychological Association (abbreviated APA) is a professional organization representing psychologists in the U.S., with around 150,000 members and an annual budget of around $70m. The American Psychological Association is occasionally confused with the American Psychiatric Association, which also uses the acronym APA.

APA policy on the use of the title psychologist is contained in the General Guidelines for Providers of Psychological Services: "Psychologists have a doctoral degree in psychology from an organized, sequential program in a regionally accredited university or professional school" and suggests "refer[ence] to master's-level positions as counselors, specialists, clinicians, and so forth (rather than as 'psychologists')." A definition of psychology is offered: "the study of the mind and behavior."

Media Psychology is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to publishing theoretically-oriented empirical research that is at the intersection of psychology and media communication. These topics include media uses, processes, and effects. Such research is already well represented in mainstream journals in psychology and communication, but its publication is dispersed across many sources. Therefore, scholars working on common issues and problems in various disciplines often cannot fully utilize the contributions of kindred spirits in cognate disciplines. By providing a high-quality, common publication outlet for psychologists, human developmental specialists, communication researchers, and other scholars who are interested in the psychological antecedents and consequences of communicating via mass media (television), telecommunications media (computer networks), and personal media (multimedia), potentially fertile cross-disciplinary work can flourish. Although most of the published articles will report original empirical research that bridges mediated communication and psychology, state-of-the-art reviews and meta-analyses that provide a major synthesis of primary research findings in a pivotal area will be considered. Manuscripts will be judged by the degree to which they make a major theoretical contribution and offer a substantial advancement to the body of knowledge about the uses, processes, or effects of the media.

  • The apa is a bunch of liberal assholes

  • Most of the scientific and psychiatric community has been compromised gradually starting in the early 1900s and then really more prominently so starting in the late 60s early 70s. For example, many people think the American Psychiatric Association is the expert and final say when it comes to issues of psychology. Dig deeper and you'll find that the APA's decisions are almost always based on political agendas and profits for Big Pharma, and has been like that since the early 70s

  • I was abruptly removed from benzodiazepines after 7 years/high dose for situational stress. Nearly six months later, it's still hell. The neuro symptoms (muscular twitches, vertigo, racing thoughts, tactile hypersensitivity, and ongoing insomnia), are brutal, and there really appears to be no end in sight. If the symptoms don't let up within a few months, I'll seek medical help elsewhere, as without, I could win lotto, but remain a "feral cat on crack in traffic!" Please tell your patients!!!
