The day I realized my childhood hero wasn't invincible was the day I learned an important lesson about life. Maybe I learned about the mortality of humans earlier than most, maybe I had just been pushing it aside.
But the death of this man was a shock for me. He had been my inspiration since birth, and his love for his family and animals sparked my imagination more than anyone else.
I followed him avidly until the end, never missing an episode of Crocodile Hunter or Croc Diaries. My dream was to go to Australia and visit his zoo, see the crocodiles he loved so much.
Maybe one day I will get to go.
I will never forget you, Steve. Thank you for shaping my childhood and making me the person I am today.

This isn't meant to be a fancy video. It is what it is- a memorial to an amazing man and my biggest inspiration as a child.

Footage: The Crocodile Hunter, Croc Diaries, Collision Course
Song: Losing Your Memory by Ryan Star

Fan made. This is a tribute to a personal hero of mine. I made no money from this.

  • Steve Irwin, was truly an amazing man, he was so nice and i knew his family well. I love this video and this song, your editing is amazing.

  • :'( God bless you Steve. I still miss him and was my hero also,i really looked up to him. I think because of him i want to work with animals and help educate people and protect them I cried so many times when he passed. I'm holding back tears while watching this. Beautiful tribute to a great guy and role model. R.I.P Steve thanks for everything you've done and for the inspiration Great video, wonderful.

  • He was impossible. A force of nature even. Something that I had always thought could never be stopped or stayed by time nor life and... and then he died.

I think, like you, I thought he was invincible and after his death I realised that people die; everyone dies, no matter how brave or impossible or larger-than-life they appear to be.

He was and still is an inspiration, and a reminder. We don't have to fear nature but we can't forget our own mortality in the process of facing our fears...
