Geoff Krozier - The Man, Magik & Madness

Geoff Krozier was a legend among the few fortunate to hear him, and among the very few to have seen him live. He was more than a mere magician, he was The High Priest of Mystery and Madness. Developing his skills in Melbourne, Australia in the 1970's, he successfully toured Paris and then settled in new York before returning to Australia in 1980. Here he linked up with Australia's Premier Electronic outfit - Rainbow Generator (aka The Generator). After 6 months hard work around Melbourne, the whole show, crew, chooks, ducks, birds, boxes and tons of musical equipment & lights were shipped up to the Fission Chips Studios (in Woolloomooloo N.S.W). Owned & operated by Mojo (aka David), he and the other member of the Generator, Ras (aka Rob), had already recorded and released an electronic LP - "Dance Of The Spheres" (with an award winning track), and other recordings. Several weeks of full-on rehearsals saw all members go there on way, with the intention of returning shortly to kick-off a proper recording session, and to return to live performances. Tragically on May 17th 1981 Geoffrey passed away. This was just prior to the crew coming back together. Using the tapes of rehearsals, Mojo (assisted by his Engineer friend Barry, and to lesser degree by Rob)lovingly assembled the tribute double vinyl LP, "Tranceformer". The video has never been seen before, and from bits and pieces, Rob took it on as a project over a long period of time, and now we present it just as lovingly as a further tribute to our friend, to our brother - Geoffrey.

Geoff was a special person way ahead of his time. I met him when he was working at Channel 9 and joined him and The Magic Word briefly as his assistant. I appeared with him on Showcase and other places including The National New Faces Ball where I got so pissed with the band that I leapt through the audience eating fire exactly as he wanted me too despite being only 17 and very shy! Great loss when he died.

Thanks for your memories, interestingly much of the Krozier vids were filmed in 1980 @ GTV 9 (in Melbourne).

Great videos. Saw Jeff Crozier at the Aquarius Festival in Canberra Australia in May 1969 with the Magic Word, a trio pounding out loud hard rock instrumental music while he did his magic stage act. I remember one trick where Jeff had this cane, which he threw out over the crowd and it floated and returned to him. It was really one of the most exciting and memorable acts I've ever seen. Thanks for preserving his memory.

Yer, not just hot for him either :) many, many shows where fire was everywhere, smoldering keyboards on a number of occasions - once i looked up to see the door frame leading off-stage alight. The show went on! - ras

Mojo is a fabulous electronic guitarist and composer who I used to know in the early 2000's.Totally unique artist.

yep he was only videod in the 80s coscos ottovr was under his spell as was i,i believe there must be many more videos out there as the many years he won top majician ect at the awards,anyway a great loss would love too see more!! storm.

Geoff would often slip a phrase into many of his shows .... 'there are two sides to every coin....."

This summed him up, although it could be argued he had many sides - but you are right, behind the old fashioned Fire & Brimstone; the ripping off of heads; the sucking of rats brains through straws - was a man who was very loyal to his friends, very appreciative of his audience and loved his craft.

Thanks for your comment - trippy just begins to describe him, & that's when he was off the stage. Seriously, he was an entertainers entertainer. The vids do not do him, or the performances, justice - BUT it is all that remains of his amazing persona except for an LP & CD of his performances. It's taken 26 something years to transfer the bits of 8mm film & video across into a coherent set of media, & I thought the time was right for posting on youtube. Rob
