I love shows at the Independent. Crack rocks as it is, but this show must have been great. I got to see Johnny Hickman play at the Hotel Utah once and the rest of Cracker were there. Good times.

This is not a Robert Johnson song. At best, it can be argued that Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics with the same theme in mind.

Hence the suggestion that the Robert Johnson song was the "origin"

Not to argue a moot point, but the songs don't sound the same, nor are there any other lyrical connections other than the "last fair deal" stuff.

Very nice version of loser...should be mentioned it is not only a cover of the Dead, but the Dead got it from the catalog of Robert Johnson (Last Fair Deal Gone Down). The origins of this song are not 30 years old, but more like 90 years old!

Intriguing info . Im gonna look at the Robert Johnson bit , cause it looks like you may be right . many Dead songs had their roots in earlier or foreign musics from Ireland etc

I love Loser , my fave version , the Garcia album from 1972 , Park city UT Aug 20 , 1987 . And Cornell Univeristy May 8 , 1977 amongst other versions . And this Cracker one now .. they just jammed it and jamed it . Thanks for posting , and very good camera work as well

Sure looks like a Jet King to me. I have one just like it. Changed the pickups and it plays and sounds pretty good.
