This solo for the pedals is inspired by my organ piece "Two Wind Fantasies", issued on SuperAudio-CD with Reger's "Variationen und Fuge ueber ein Originalthema Op. 73" in 2006 and available through www.willemtanke.com. It is played on the main organ of the Grote of St Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. At the beginning, the legs are used more or less like mallets for a percussion instrument. After two minutes, the right foot plays glissandos. From 3'35", there is an intensive use of the right heel to create legato melodies, while the right part of the left foot keeps the low E-flat, rhythmisized by the low D-flat that is played by the left part of the left foot.

  • Indeed. The pedal has a 1' flute, which at the end I gradually close off (after each pedal motive). This has to be done with care, because the pipe is very small and every millimetre affects the sound considerably.

  • LOVE THIS!!!! MORE PLEASE!! Wonderful foot work! Unique sound. Do you have students who can play this way too? All organist should be taught to play this way!!

  • Thanks! Unfortunately students can not yet do this, buy maybe in the future!

  • Your videos have the best camera work of all organ videos on YouTube, thank you!

  • Thank you! There is a new video now with Messiaen.

  • Great - good to see you in socks - quite common in the UK - but we tend to use more heels!

  • The slow release of the flute stop makes a really interesting effect!

  • Are you familiar with the pedal studies of Charles-Valentin Alkan and Jean Langlais? You do them proud!

    Knap stukje werk overigens!

  • Never seen anything like the ending on an organ before. Amazing! Is it accomplished by slowly closing off the stop?

  • now that my friends is only somthing you can do on a tracker! bravo! i love it. The ending is the coolest think i have ever heard!

  • Great tecnique for pedals socks!!

Hear! Hear! Hear!
