I'm sorry but your views are flawed, Love Never Dies perfectly finishes the Phantom of the Opera story and you cannot say that the change of character wasn't necessary.
The main plot of the story Love Never Dies is that after Christine left the Phantom to marry Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny, she met with the Phantom again to reveal to him her love for him, hoping to start a proper relationship. For me it was interesting to see how the characters did change. Raoul having addiction problems was something I actually didn't like but it could show how he suffered from the stress during and after TPotO. It was understandable that Meg became a psycho, because she had to sell her body for helping the Phantom, who actually didn't act grateful towards Meg.
Anyway you also have a good story, I would like to see.

@xMadxScientistx Not to mention Steve Barton, the fantastic Raoul and future Phantom. :(

"And everyone's happy except Christine and Gustave.....who are dead."
I was expecting some angry teenage rant but you actually made a lot of sense and I agreed with a lot of what you said. Kudos.

@xMadxScientistx Yeah...she was on a terrific British sitcom called Keeping Up Appearances when she died.

I totally agree with you 100% about how they butchered the characters of Raoul, Meg and Mme. Giry. It just doesn't make sense in the sequel that they are all completely different. Raoul's a drunk, Meg's a promiscuous star/killer and Mme.Giry is a bitter old woman. I think they should have stuck closer to POM and they should have brought in Darius and have him kill Christine like he did in the actual novel rather than Meg. They were best friends and Meg was so modest and nice in the first one.

You do realize that the original performers are all pretty old by now?? I do agree with using Erik's real name though.
Your first idea's really good...unfortunately, the actress who played Madame Giry is no longer with us
