This is the completion of a previous video titled 'common point | 31 Jan 2009 | part one,' a quest to find the common point between southern California's Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Kern counties. This part depicts hiking the 1.14 miles across an uninhabited desert region of the Antelope Valley in far northern Los Angeles County to the common point of the three counties. The common point between Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Kern counties is represented a simple iron pipe set in the ground next to the barbed wire fence marking the southern boundary of Edwards Air Force Base. Edwards Air Force Base is a part of southern California's extensive desert military infrastructure and a southern California institution. This journey underetaken and completed 31 January 2009.
An unfortunate event occurred during this hike: the camera battery died and I did not have replacement batteries with me. However, after locating the common point survey marker (the iron pipe), there was sufficient power remaining in the camera batteries to take still photos.

An interesting geographic fact about the Antelope Valley's road names discovered while studying the area's topographic maps: The avenue names familiar to anyone driving California State Highway 14 freeway (the 14 Freeway) in the Antelope Valley (Avenue S, Avenue P, etc) begin with Avenue A at the east-west Los Angeles/Kern County line. These are lettered alphabetically -- Avenue A, Avenue B, Avenue C, etc -- southward from the county line at one mile intervals.
Cool I wonder how many people make it out to that marker every year.(Not much I'm guessing)

@davidsquall351 Hello David. How many people make it out there each year? I doubt anyone except serious geography geeks would ever think of going there. The day my friend and me did this hike there were some dirt bikers tearing around out there; some of them even driving along the Edwards AFB boundary/fence. I'm sure some of those dirt bikers have passed by the common point at some time. I wonder if any of them know what it is. My guess is no: they probably do not know.

At 2:51 the most beautiful view, the lonely man & desert. // Each hill top in my country, even the most insignifiant, have a little concrete milestone (made in 1961), and the main topographic points one iron tripod, over ten feet high, sometime one isolated old tree in the plain is preserved as ....

@italokid80 "Each hill top in my country, even the most insignifiant, have a little concrete milestone (made in 1961)"
That's really interesting Andrei. In America there are survey monuments on some hills and also along roads, but not on every hill. The markers are bronze tablets set in concrete indicating elevation.

Preserved as what, Andrei?

Good job. I suppose you will always carry spare batteries from now on. I carry spare batteries, spare memory card and a spare camera... Same with flashlights. Extra batteries and bulbs and an extra flashlight. Going into mines taught me that early on.
Thanks for sharing!

@mobiltec Hello mobil. I usually carry a small camera bag with all of those things: batteries; memory cards, etc. When we did this hike, I happened to leave the bag in my vehicle. Muy stupido.
