NASA scientists have discovered water molecules in the polar regions of the moon in amounts that are greater than predicted, but still relatively small. Also found in the lunar soil was hydroxyl, a molecule consisting of one oxygen and one hydrogen atom.

  • nasa didnt have waterproofs back then. It would now be theoretically possible to return to the moon with waterproof bags, seal them up with moon soil inside and return them to earth and see how wet the are- assuming we can rule out humidity contamination in the lab!
