The Docent Tour Guide makes the visiting experience more valuable and compelling for everyone, while furthering the mission and core values of the art institution. The Docent Tour Guide is also an attempt to make cultural institutions more dynamic and relevant to their local communities with the convergence of commonplace technologies.

Art institutions can engage their visitors by allowing them to actively create and participate in their own artwork dialogue using mobile devices and online tablets, rather than viewing passively. By continuously updating the content via visitor interaction, the content varies and recreates the experience with each visit. This allows for a more creative atmosphere, encouraging the user to further explore the art institution with the opportunity of being rewarded for their adventurousness. With an expectation to contribute and share their own ideas, these learners develop the opportunity to be heard and participate in conversations around art and culture.
