I find it interesting that someone who is interested enough to make a video about elevators is also so uninformed about them. There is NOTHING unsafe about Otis elevators from the late 1960's (or any other elevator for that matter) as long as is it maintained and inspected. These particular specimens look especially well maintained and are as reliable and safe as brand new ones. You have a false phobia!!! An assignment... go back and ride these cool machines right now!!
That elevator is hardly from the 20's, 30's or 40's. I'll say that elevator is from the mid to late 1960's. I rode an elevator that is 102 years old just recently.
Why do people keep calling those "Touch Sensitive"? They are actually "Heat Sensitive". If you press the button with a foreign object, like keys, or a pen, or pencil, the button will not activate. It looks for body heat to trigger. I happen to have an HD Radio at work that employs the heat sensitive buttons.
The SEARS elevator at westfield topanga is from the 1960's. I ride it. These elevators that you didn't ride are very safe. Mabey more safe than the ones now.
my college has new otis lifts in you can still get otis elevators in the united kingdom

These touch buttons are 1960's vintage. Otis used touch buttons in the 70's that are slightly different.
