Hugh Morrison is CEO of Arrow International, a project delivery company involved in large capital works projects. Arrow is responsible for a wide variety of projects, some of which include Shackleton's Hut in Antarctica, design build contracts for schools, through to Project and Construction Management of the 'World First' Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin and its precinct works. Closer to home, Arrow is Programme Manager for the AMI insurance company, managing a workload in excess of $1 Billion. Arrow is also continuing to be active in the 'business as usual' work in Canterbury, as well as the commercial property/CBD recovery works, both as Contractor and Development Manager.
Holding a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from Canterbury University and an MBA (with awards) from Otago University, Morrison draws on a diverse project background including design, strategic planning, project management and construction management. This has involved Hugh working in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Yemen.
While actively involved in the post earthquake work in Christchurch, Morrison was struck by the lack of clarity in terms of leadership vision. He contends that a "10 Step, Medium Term Plan" is a necessary initiative to give confidence to the community and stop the wasted energy of companies and individuals speculating on what might happen. His TEDx talk, entitled The Village, The Playground and the Work Place -- Rebuilding the Symbiotic Relationship will look at post-earthquake Christchurch's built environment in terms of its residential areas, social infrastructure and its commercial CBD.
TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
