One of the two SD38-2 J Balls rolls into Gary, IND with a UP AC4400CW trailing. This is the N-21 Train otherwise know as The Long West, It originates at Kirk Yard and travels almost the entire line to Roundout, IL exchanging with all railroads the intersect it including NS, CSX, UP, BNSF, Indiana Railroad, IAIS, Metra, CN, CP, ICE(CP), WSOR, WC(CN), IC(CN), GTW(CN).

This is footage from the NS/EJE interchange in Gary, they set aside the two helpers including the UP because the UP had a bad brake line that took over two hours to get fixed. I believe that the UP went to the NS for an empty NS/UP coal train that UP will use in the lead on their line due to operation restrictions of cab signal equipment in their engines left over from the CNW days.
Most of the coil cars went to NS.
Enjoy!

  • It should be "C.N. Balling Long West" since the J is now the C.N.

  • Geese if it interchanges with all those railroads in Roundout then it pretty much interchanges with every railroad in the state except for a couple!!!

  • This is the KSW-1 you've got on video, here... The N-21 is built in the hump at Kirk Yard, but gets to Joliet on the head-end of the Lined Train.

  • Your videos are awesome!

  • Sweet catch....The J is a very interesting RR to fan :)....I wish I lived down there to catch some of that stuff....Keep up the good work :)
