Oct 2007 we toured NZ...the one country in the world I would choose to live, if possible....Grand Scenery, even Grander People!!!
Unfortunately, due to Avalanche threat our visit to Milford Sound was cancelled!
Alas, maybe next year!!
( added bonus: we saw Sir Edmund Hillary in Christchurch, for Antartic Explorers Day--what a privilege! )

I just now saw a thing on TV about Fiordlands, and the Milford Road, and came to YT to look for a video. Looks awesome, and scenery second to none. Is the road generally in good shape, or does it tend to be a bit rough? I'm sure that this road is just the tip of the iceburg for you, in terms of great rides on the South Island. You're a lucky guy!

The road is in good repair generally. The day I went it was pretty wet and a truck had shed some diesel on the road so I was taking it cautiously. I know of a couple of bikers who are heading out that way again so I may give them a loan of my camera and mount and get some better footage.

Especially down here in the South Island - got the Catlins, Fiordland, the West Coast and the Southern Alps as my playground. You've got some nice spots in Austalia though.
