@Martialdoismyway Yes, are there any? I get this a lot and you can kind of do a wrist choke on them, (one hand ezekiel if you're BJJ)
-
Are there any submissions from this hold?

sport!

I love this move now because I use the scarfhold all the time and finish and control the most there when I'm on top and this video has added to my repetoire! Thank you judo4mma!

hammerfists would work great here, thanks I like it

This is great. What submissions can you go for from here? I see an arm triangle available. Aside from that?
I guess I just have to practice this position more to hold it, it looks like a strange way to put your base. Gotta learn how to hold it. Cheers!

As always, your techniques are excellent. I am in Oklahoma, a huge wrestling state and the judo here is very strong in newaza. We train newaza every week without fail, as well as tachiwaza. Keep drilling your students in newaza, they can only get better with practice. Rock on !

great sensei!
Those elbows are definitely illegal.

Hi Gunskie. Yes, we know the elbows are illegal and commented a year ago about them (see our comments below). Dave is not making contact and was just using the strikes for effect, probably not the best choice. If we were to videotape it again, we would change it. ayjay

illegal in ufc and most mma organizations big ones at least use ufc rules though the hold is not illegal the downward elbows are illegal

Hi andrew7913, You are correct in that the downward strike elbows (going from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock) are illegal. Dave was just using them as an example of strikes, probably not the best choice, and not making contact. This groundhold, though, is perfectly legal and is an extremely strong hold.

@judo4mma
Hello sensei. I enjoy your downloads which are amazing. Where did you learn all these moves as most judo schools have "lost" their knowledge of newaza?
Are you associated with traditional judo society or the kodokan? have you visited the kosen schools in Japan?
Thanks for your teachings.
