Modern missiles are not to be compared by throw weight. Miniaturization made modern warheads smaller and lighter so there is no need to throw such payload. Fast acceleration, maneuverable warheads and quazi-ballistic trajectory — these are traits of modern SLBM.

Besides, Bulava also shows success streak and is entering service now.

  • @moonshot925 I am Russian but that is at least intelligent way to keep the discussion going.

Still, there are other factors to consider - like stealth, stamina, crew comfort ( since ballistic missiles are to sneak under ice for months ).

  • @barracuda7018

It us up to Australia what ships they want to buy/ build... India purchased the Rafale instead of the Typhoon when the Typhoon is better. Look at what the Type 45 can do. It can destroy any missile travelling at mach 3... detect a target 300+ miles away... oh and did I mention that the target can be as small as a cricket ball.

  • @MrXray2011 Pal, you can't show me a single independent source which describes the TYPE45 as the best Anti-Air ship in the world other than BEA Systems marketing department and the RN ( which is understandable ,they paid 1 billion pounds per ship)

so let me ask you why all other NATO forces including the Royal Australian Navy have chosen the Arleigh Burke system? not because of price believe me the latest version is even more expensive than TYPE 45 ,close to 2 billion dollars.

''typhoon 2'' > us uk chinese .... vessels

  • If your Chinese submarine runs as goos as the Chinese scooters... then nothing to worry about, you're dead men floating...

  • Anything that floats is a target ....Signed, A Submariner.

  • the US Navy has the best subs in the world and that is undisputed proven fact. sorry, just be glad you aint at war.

  • @sidewinder188 That is why the Type 45 is and will continue to be the best Anti-Air ship. Oh and size is not how you measure types of ships. It goes on weapons load, size of weapons and armour... not size- you really should find out about this sort of thing before arguing about it. The future Frigates of the Royal Navy will be bigger than the Type 42 destroyers currently being decommissioned.

  • The Ohio class submarine carries 24 Trident D5 missiles.

The Borei class submarine only carries 16 Bulava missiles.

The Trident D5 has had 135 succesful test flights since 1989.

That is a 100% success rate.

The Bulava missile has had 19 test flights since 2004 and 7 of them were failures.

That is a 57% success rate.

    The Trident D5 has a throw-weight of 2,800 kg.

The Bulava has a throw-weight of 1,150 kg.

    Ohio class > Borei class

    Trident D5 > Bulava
