Look at my hats customer's buy here.

I'm sure someone will email me a better way, but I couldn't find it easy when I started 7 months ago! This will always be the way I do it, it works.

So I guestimate the sizes of many hats and they were swimming on my customers, but they were happy because I found a missing market, people with big heads we want to wear hats, too but couldn't find or too embarrass to try hats on our size.

But then I started getting smaller-headed beings and a few months later invested in a cheap measuring tape and that's when my hat sizing obsession began.

Now so shall yours.

Tip: sellers of crochet hat, I leave the end untucked until customer arrives. It worries them I didn't finish the hat, but when I tell them I was searching for the end to make a perfect fit for so many customers I wouldn't finish the tail.

When I tell them I could size if for them there, then they are thrilled. Especially bigger haired or large heads like mine that can never find hat sizes past 21". I don't charge extra for sizing, they love it!

  • Thanks for posting this! It should be common sense but it just wasn't coming to me.

I think i can figure it now! :)

  • @eyecandycrystaletsy it definitely was not for me. There were no videos for me to refer, so luckily to get to learn sizing at that time, big oversized hats were in!:)

  • i learned alot from your video..thanks for doing that...do you have any videos making the hat?

  • Glad to help. As for the hat, i didn't make a pattern and I haven't made it in a year.

But you can make the circle increase until 10 inches then start decreasing each row until reach size of head.. Hopes that helps.

  • do you how to make a hat 1 size smaller

  • Sorry for my late response.

    1. If you are following directions, usually you take away 2 to 3 stitches from the number of stitches given.

    2. If you already made the hat and it's too big (happens a lot) then take out the last few rows of your hat you, then decrease (stitch 2 single stitches together) more stitches. Ex. if decreasing last row every 4th stitch decrease is too big then I usually go to every 3rd stitch decrease.

    3. And one less row at the beginning of your circle works.

    Thanks!
