"Rooms" is a song from Mamas & Papas fourth studio album. This song was accually recorded in 1967 and only mono mix of this song exists. Indeed, Paul Downing recorded guitar parts on this song. And it's also a huge question is there on drums Hal Blaine or "Fast" Eddie who was touring with M&Ps to Monterey and other concerts. The album's subject matter is often downbeat and world-weary, most notably in the lyrical content of "Safe in My Garden", "Mansions", "Too Late" and "Rooms". This album contains lots of songs with lyrics, explaining M&Ps life. For e.g. "Mansions" was written about M&Ps luxury life, "Too Late" was wriiten to show the end of the group, etc. Larry Knechtel left a beautiful work on piano on this album, "Gemini Childe" sounds really great, with a piano part at the end. At all, arrangements, that John left on this song is over-top. All those harmony things... Papas & Mamas is extremely underrated album, and i believe one day lots of us will hear their "Best" psychedelic sound.

  • awesome

  • Does someone know what did happen on 1:23?

  • Scott McKenzie's version came out before theirs.

  • This whole album is HOT. Love this song so much.

  • Love the chord progressions here...also that bluesy pop guitar..better than anything today anywhere

  • Best Mamas and Papas song ever...

  • Quite simply the best.

  • Yes, that's what i mean that only mono mix exists. Thanks for notice, i did a mistake :)

  • Exactly what do you mean? The Papas and Mamas album was only ever released in stereo (and some fold-down mono in certain foreign territories), it's just that this particular track was recorded in a different session, and even though the LP it's on is in stereo, the song is a mono mix.

Are you saying you have a different mix than that released on the Papas and the Mamas LP?
