  • what up with the kid?

  • @The23113, that's my son yelling, "Dad, train!" while playing at the park adjacent to the Victorville, California Amtrak station.

  • So, what was the typical consist for tis train? It looks like a lounge and a coach-baggage, but I can't tell the others..

  • Generally a five-car one day consist. It was a short haul train from LA Union Station through Las Vegas, connecting with what is now the California Zephyr in Salt Lake City.

  • Hey whats the train number for that specific train? Also I was wondering if you know the exact consist used?

    Thanks, nice vid.

  • 0:19 says motive power is 824.

  • P40s were awesome old school locos. Rear cab control views, strobe lights. Everything!

  • The engine seen here is a P40DC, The engines used on most amtrak trains is the P42DC. However, some other engines used by Amtrak would be, the F59PHI (used on california commuter services) The NPCU (former F40PHs that have no engine inside them, making it a cabcar) and the Dash 8-32BWH (or P32-8BWH) are used in amtrak service today. And yes the P40s are up by the NEC if I am correct.

  • @railfan4235 some are there, some have been sold to commuter railroads, and some are still being restored

  • This is major historical footage

  • They still show the New Orleans to Jacksonville portion of the Sunset Limited's rout on their rout maps but it hasn't run through there since hurricane Katrina. All of the bridges and tracks there are long since repaired but the train has not returned. Maybe all this stimulus money will bring it back. One problem is that they make too many stops on too many little towns that are close together.

  • they were 36 (eb) and 35(wb)

  • not P42's,but P40's,or what they were call from GE,Dash 8-40BP,all of the 800 series have the faded stripes, the P42'had almost the same scheme, but the stripes didnt fade, the other giveaway was the strobe lights, which the P42 dont have either

  • i hope they bring it back, it was a popular train til Amtrak basically offically canceled it lol
