"Two Brothers, One Beer and the American Dream," is the story of the Stenger Family who immigrated to America from Germany, settled in Naperville and started a brewery in the 1840's. Brothers John and Nicholas' brewery covered eight acres of land and in 1854 was one of the first breweries to produce a lager beer. At its height, the brewery was a leading employer in Naperville, producing up to 17,000 barrels of beer per year. At one point, a young Adolph Coors was in a supervisory role before he headed west to open his own brewery.
The family still lives in Naperville and is in its seventh generation.
