I´ve seen the film 2 times, last 20 years ago, I know every scene. I have the book in the very, very rare german edition (I´m from germany) and in english to. It´s great, propably better than the film. In the film the best role are Joy and bad bad Wilson. And the music is great.

I'd put Shane, High Noon and The Searchers at the very top of the list, in any order, for best ever.

I agree although I was not a fan of John Wayne, his best I think was 'The Man who shot Liberty Wallace'.
In our modern time "Dances with Wolves" and "Unforgiven", are just as good. But "Shane" remains my favorite.

This is my prefered film. Nowadays it seems americans forgot how to make fine films and music. There was no replacement for the old american actors e directors.

Great western with a heroic Alan Ladd and a villianous Jack Palance.
Makes me think of Bill Hicks' routine on the foreign policy of USA.
