After purchasing my new hedge-clipper I marched outside to test it out only to turn back around after two chops. The wasps made their appearance and I didn't stick around to greet them. I immediately said to myself, "I need a beekeeper suit!" After pricing one online I thought I should at least price a 'bee-eliminator'. Well, he said to get rid of them would cost between $145. and $195. But in my heart I really wanted a suit anyway. So I got online and purchased myself a beekeeper suit for $60. and could not wait for it to arrive. Here it is!
I approached this situation cautiously regardless of how I was supposedly protected. It was my first get the Wasp nest experience. I don't think the wasps saw me. I heard they were very aggressive and if that were that case I should have been attacked. White is a deliberate color for a beekeeper suit.

It was over 100 degrees, but since I didn't fully trust this suit, I still dressed up in bulky clothing to ensure no penetration of a stinger. When I got done I was soaked, literally.

It was fun.

I had to trim this bush.

  • This is the most amazing thing ..I love this, you are just so cute.. Where did you get that suit ??

    I have an anaconda on my property in Paraguay .. I am sending you in to handle it :}

  • @eblair12

    Hi Hon,

I got the suit online on ebay, I believe. It was only $60. and cheaper than a bug man.

Anaconda? I'd do it if I had metal armor for that one. Got any?

  • Bravo, Girl! Go get 'em! I got stung by two of those little critters that had nested on the doorframe of my storage are. They and their nest are history! One little note about bees and wasps. They secrete pheromones that they use as "guidance" to and from their homes. When you have gotten rid of their nests, wash the area down with a hose and they won't be back!

Thank for the tip! I did squirt some house bug spray on the remainder of the bush afterward.

Keep a suit on hand! ;D

  • Next time, if you're willing to "terminate" the wasps, there is a much easier way. You go in before dawn when they're still sleeping. You can use special wasp sprays that will kill them before they awaken and start flying.

But now that you've invested in that suit, I look forward to seeing you dancing in it!

    :-)

  • OMG!!!! I've just discovered that I can hold my breath for 9 minutes 15 seconds !!!

I grew up with a fear of bees and wasps as a result of 2 close encounters with swarms. My phobia became really irrational, but I've managed to overcome this in the past few years. Now I can work in the yard with them buzzing away around me.

Nonetheless, it would have been hard enough to watch this if it were a stranger. But it was YOU, Diana...and I found my heart was in my throat the whole time !!

  • GEEEZ, Diana..be careful! Be keepers suit or not! I deal with wasps all the time around here..If they swarm..it's hard to get away!!! Looks like you're pretty safe though.

I know you don't want to kill them, but I would use a 'hornet spray' first.. It works!!

Sometimes you just have to do them in. That's just the way it is :)

  • almost feel guilty giving you a like rating when i know you could be in danger !!

you get a big ATTA GIRL for knowing the importance of bees !! happy to see you being so careful while out of your usually safe dancing zone !!
