@snoopypumpkin1 Did you use canned icing? Because that's the worst icing you can use for a cake. Also, don't pull the spatula up when you're icing, just move it around (YouTube tutorials on how to ice- there are a lot of them). Also, be very generous with your icing. Pile it on there; you can always scrape off the excess.

I had SUCH a hard time icing a cake I made yesterday! I'm not sure what I did wrong...My crumb coat kept picking up cake. flecks went totally into the buttercream no matter how gentle I was-When I pushed icing, pieces of cake would rip off and move too.
I put the crumb coated cakes into the freezer for 30 minutes, but when I tried to put the top layer on, it pulled up the crumb coat!
I just don't know what to do... I wanted to see if u had any suggestions!

The buttercream recipe is equal parts powdered sugar, butter and shortening. Vanilla or other flavored extracts to taste. Happy caking :)
