Homeopathy: The Test - Horizon - BBC
Homeopathy was pioneered over 200 years ago. Practitioners and patients are convinced it has the power to heal. Today, some of the most famous and influential people in the world, including pop stars, politicians, footballers and even Prince Charles, all use homeopathic remedies. Yet according to traditional science, they are wasting their money.
"Unusual claims require unusually good proof"
James Randi
The Challenge
Sceptic James Randi is so convinced that homeopathy will not work, that he has offered $1m to anyone who can provide convincing evidence of its effects. For the first time in the programme's history, Horizon conducts its own scientific experiment, to try and win his money. If they succeed, they will not only be $1m richer - they will also force scientists to rethink some of their fundamental beliefs.
@OEMarekS1 And it seems that you are decieved to think that modern medicine is harmful and fradulent, which to a large extent it isn't. You don't understand how corporations work or how science works. You have your anecdotal experiences that lead you to these convictions, which is understandable, but they're simply misinformed. You have the evidence in your hands, but you're too disgruntled to accept them. It's rather silly, to be honest.

@OEMarekS1 Well, they are in the drug industry, so why not? They dont need to diversify. Raw juicing, which is what I think you mean, is one of those holistic treatments that may or may not work, but from what I know it's unnecessary. Might be healthy, yes, but healing? Don't think so.

You are being deceived that drugs are safe and you should use them in order to recover. Sorry, but this is my last comment. You may not believe in homeopathy, but believing in a good will of pharmaceuticals industry is even more naive than believing in homeopathy. Thanks for discussion.

"They would be foolish to push away working medicine because that would work against their profit seeking and good will." - wow! Their profit seeking is limited to selling more drugs. And they can sell more only when those drugs are not very effective. Really.. you should read something more about conventional medicine where cancer cure was discovered many years ago. You should read about people that fully recovered just by drinking a simple vegetable extracts.

@OEMarekS1 There are huge corporations in the pharmaceuticals industry, because it requires so much money to develop medicine. They would be foolish to push away working medicine because that would work against their profit seeking and good will. Fake medicine, like homeopathy is pushed away because it does not work. Randi's former occupation has nothing to do with the test. In fact, he's usually not the one to formulate and supervise these tests, but maybe the BBC wanted him for "star quality".

I overreacted a bit, but this is what I see. Big corporations pushing away real working medications. Scientists that made those tests are highly educated and so on. But limited only to their knowledge. I am even more sceptical because of a presence of a "magican". This guy makes this "test" highly questionable. I'm not buying that.

@Johnson731NA none of the doctors i met knew about how to treat patients. Always the same text 'try this anibiotics it may help' and now I know why. THEY GET MONEY OR GIFTS for pushing different drugs on pattients.

Nearly all that conventional medicine does is a cruelty. "Healing" with chemicals that cause other health problems. Pleease... this is funny. The more of this crap we eat the more of it we need! Now surgery... doctors don't even want to talk about how lame they are. They are all learning... on us. And because deseases develop so fast, doctors can't be educated enough. Doctors are good actors. You can see one of them giving talk on TedTalks. Search for memory of water. Have fun.

@OEMarekS1 Primitive? How is extensive research, millions of dollars, modern laboratories, testing and distribution of medicine by highly educated professional primitive in any way? Water is primitive. Anecdotal evidence is not enought to proclaim something as true, that is the difference between science and various kinds of superstitions. We can "self-heal", it's called the immune system, cell division and blood coagulation to stop bleeding wounds. Sometimes the body needs help from medicine.
