TV9 - " PDO PRANNA SANKATA " : Panchayat Development Officer PROBLEM - 5.................!



A woman Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) has complained to the police that Janawada Gram Panchayat president and other members assaulted her in the village on Thursday.

The police said that following the assault, the PDO, Mangala Kamble (24), was admitted to the district hospital on Thursday afternoon with serious injuries. According to doctors, she is out of danger.

In her complaint, Ms. Kamble has named the gram panchayat president, Anita Srinivas, vice-president Jayprakash and members Sudha Ambadas, Prabhavati, Majid Mian, Ramesh Rao, Chandraknath, Shamala Bai and Suraj Singh.

The Janawada police have booked cases under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and various sections of the IPC against them.

The police said a few months ago the PDO had complained to Bidar Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Jitendra Naik that the gram panchayat president and members were demanding money from her and harassing her.

The elected representatives had in turn complained to Mr. Naik that the PDO was not cooperating with them in administrative matters.

Condemned

Members of the Panchayat Development Officers' Association staged a protest here on Friday to condemn the alleged assault on Ms. Kamble.

Members of the Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane supported them.

They shouted slogans against the accused and demanded action against them. They submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister seeking disqualification of the accused panchayat members, to the district authorities.
