steelhead set up

To give you an idea on how to set up for steelhead. How ever there are many other ways. 6lbs maxima ultra green reel, 4lbs maxima ultra green leader line! and make your leader line about 3 foot long.

thats sorta stupid u can fish like that but there way better results from a float some split shots an swivle with a 2 foot lead and a tiny hook

@Saugeendrifter I dont know... You might save money by not loosing tackle, but you spend 5 years worth of tackle on a good floating rod and reel. I seen one the other day at the bait shop for about 550 bucks. And that was just the reel. How ever... If I had that kind of coin, I would surely switch to floating. Would love to try it some time. dude makle the switch to float fishing, you'll lose a lot less tackle, usually just your hook. make sure your leader from your barrel swivel is at least 2 Ibs lighter than your main line. float fishing is more sensitive versitile and you'll lose less tackle

how do you drift with that kind of set up

In the heat of fighting a fish and possibly trying to land it on some types of banks or boats, reeling the fish in close to you, one day you might reel up to the swivel faster than you meant to, but also I like it there for storage of the rig....I can just reel up to the bead, snip off the leader and Im done.

To each his own, its not a big deal, just easy to do and I like it.

I've never had that happen and I never use a top bead. Why would you reel it that far up to cast?

The top bead stops the swivel from jamming up into your top guide and possibly causing problems. The bottom bead protects the mainline knot.

Really theres no good purpose for either beed to be honest. This coming spring i'm gonna try just a two way swivel a drift sinker and attach the leader line to the two way. This setup someone showed me last spring. Good luck this coming spring!!

I've found that unless Im fishing LOW water I like a fixed weight vs. the sliding setup.

Thanks for the comment! A drift sinker go's on the swivel, and the wieght of your swivel depends on how fast the water flow is. As far as the floater i use either a little corky or a little styrophome* ball. If you use a spawn bag you have the option to choose weather or not you want a floater right in the spawn bag or one w/out. Another tip, watch your drag. You need to tire these fish out to bring them in. Good luck!!
