They're really not so sensationalistic these days. I think the leadership has seen to it they've gone back to something a bit more restrained.
The best example would be how they handled Hurricane Ike. They were, perhaps, the most mellow & low-key about how they conveyed information, right down to how the presentation was put together (calmer music cues & the like)
