When our marketing allotment of 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball boxes finally arrived Tuesday evening, there was no one around to bust them with. In the interest of full dislosure, it took every ounce of will power I had to not fly solo for a golden edition of Panini Unwrapped.

But a product as special as Gold Standard deserves a special guest, so we brought in the big gun, NBA Brand Manager David Porter, to help walk us and talk us through the product.

  • So there are only 50 of those gold cards? And 4 of them are now bowed and have fingerprints, and there are 5 golden tickets, and 1 is there with you guys? I see...

  • @Necrodius Actually, the Golden Ticket was just a printed out sample with greek text in the fine print. All five were inserted. As for the Solid Gold cards, those were immediately cleaned and then sent to be slabbed by BGS.

  • what is the gold content in the regular gold rush cards? How many grams?

  • @sciontcdude They didn't get a license to produce baseball products until September. Before that they couldn't unless they wanted to be sued. Expect it in 2012!

  • when u think of sports cards u think of baseball.....y is it then u are going to do this for all sports EXCEPT baseball.....shame

  • What makes you think collectors want gold on their cards. Enough gimmicks and just make a solid product. It's not OK to put less than average autos in a product and try to save it with tons of Kobe autos and charge almost $200. Really? If you really want to save the Hobby shop as you claim, try making a product that doesnt look like everything else you make. Manufactured patches in a $200 box...WOW. I wont even comment on the Manu Patches in National Treasures. Upper Deck please come back

  • super awful product and a super awful person promoting it, tracy hackler.

  • I have bought 6 boxes of this stuff so far. It is ok. It is upsetting to see a great auto, only to be cut off due to the small windows you guys made. Saturating the market with tons of Kobe autos was another thing I don't like. I have pulled 2 in this product. Usually that would be great! But with all of them from this product kobe autos have hit rock bottom. Cards aren't worth the money imo. Should be priced at around 90-100$, no more.

  • why is blake in the top50 hes horible is there a lamarcus gold top 50

  • i like the sticker more then on card

  • I was just curious how much of this product was made? I assume with everything numbered to 299 or less that the product is somewhat limited. Just curious. Thanks!
