When a former director of the CIA can claim that his agency "owns everyone of any significance in the major media," Americans know instinctively that something is not right. We have witnessed the most craven abuses of media, from the vast consolidation of many independent voices into few hands, to paid-for fake news being bought and placed by the White House to influence public opinion.

Our founding fathers recognized how important a free and independent press, what we call "the media," is to maintaining a free and functioning democracy. The internet has been a new beacon of free discourse and diversity of opinion, and must be defended through legislating Net Neutrality.
