An electrifying version of the hymn Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Saviour. I think that it was recorded about 1960. The lead singer, West Virginia's Claude Jeter, was surely an influence on Al Green.
This record featured on the movie The Big Easy, which was strange because the rest of the soundtrack was by Louisiana artists. Good choice all the same.

  • Tudo de bom!

  • @912biscuit You good sir, have impeccable taste in music if you have been listening to this song for that long. I am an atheist and this song makes me WANT to believe!

  • i have been listening to this song every day for 20 years and I still get goosebumps everytime!!

  • I first heard this in the sound track to the movie "The Big Easy" great sound track, but this is one of the best songs on it, and a gift to all those who, like me, would never have otherwise learned of this fantastic group. Man oh man...good stuff!

  • While listening to a record of The Swan Silvertones Paul Simon wrote 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. That's where he got his inspiration from. It's actually a gospel song.

Watch the documentary 'Simon & Garfunkel:The Harmony' about the creation of that legendary record in which he mentions this. So bless The Silvertones.

  • this is the most awesome gospel song EVER!

  • O;utstanding splrit;ual , beautifully sung by one of the best gospel groups. They certainly had the spirit of God in them when they recorded this. I thank the Swan Silvertones for this great spiritual which "passes" right through you.
