Park Street Church on Boston's Freedom Trail, has quietly & not so quietly shaped US evangelicalism for 200 years. This is a trailer for a 29 minute documentary that celebrates eight generations of urban Christians serving their city, because of their varied experiences of God.
Lamp Post Media is seeking the funding to complete a one hour special documentary that shows just how Park Street is a microcosm of US evangelicalism. We explore its spawning of Thoreau's "Benevolent Kingdom", its decline after the Civil War into sectarian piety, its neo evangelical revival mid 20th century that exported the Benevolent Kingdom worldwide. But, frustrated by resistance at home, through the McCarthy years it lays a template of political organization that spawns the Moral Majority and the Religious Right. Having resisted the extremes through five decades and emerged from this shadow cast ironically by its most lauded pastor, we see how a grass roots led renewal of faith and purpose has developed an international congregation of extraordinary diverslty and global engagement.
Great stuff
