USS Oriskany CVA-34 at sea and Unrep (Underway Replishment). - There's just something about old 8mm film. No matter the contents- no matter the skill of the cameraman- watching an old film has a certain appeal.
Oddly enough this is the second film I've watched today with heavy artilery being fired.
Lots of scenes with items being delivered on zip lines of sorts. Good shots of a military copter as well.
Nice 8mm home movie transfer of a Navy ship. Military film includes footage of the USS Oriskany. Watch army transport helicopters fly by at close range. This movie takes place at sea, I am not sure if this is at time of war. The guns do fire some rounds toward the end of the film. The impact of the shot into the sea is impressive.
Hey! I'm Dextro, and welcome to the Home Movie Depot Archives. Here is your chance to get a better understanding of what we do, and why we do it - to preserve your memories from 8mm, 16mm, VHS and DV into DVD, DV, and web streaming formats.
The Oriskany was apparently the last Essex Class Carrier ever built, and after specific modifications (angled deck and an enclosed bow), it was designated an "Oriskany Class" carrier.
Nicknamed the "Mighty O", it completed 25 cruises and launched more sorties than any other carrier of its time. On active duty, the Oriskany carried a 3,500-man crew and 80 aircraft. In the Korean and Vietnam Wars alone, the "Mighty O" set out to sea a total of 16 times.
i was there in 1969, yankee-dixie station, combat ops. served with the U.S. Marine detachment!
