ST Catherine of Siena (Bandra) lost the MSSA inter-school girls under-12 football title by a whisker. But the children from the orphanage did not let it go before putting up a brave fight. The debutants lost to another debut team J B Petit High School (Fort) 0-2 in the tie-breaker after a goalless full time at Azad Maidan yesterday. Reha Patel and Alaia Singh scored for J B Petit in the shootout.
Lalita Bist, who was the most impressive striker for the St Catherine in the tournament, was obviously disappointed. We should have won the match. But we are proud to be the runners-up in our first tournament, she said.St Catherineâ's sports in-charge Patsy Furtado was happy with the girls achievement. Nobody expected us to come this far in the tournament. My girls have shown that they are at par with other kids as well. The players were confident to win but I think they became too nervous in the final moments and gave it away, she said.
