Media Clampdown in the Gulf Coast: Government and BP Place More Restrictions on Journalists Covering the Oil Spill
Beach-closed

Covering BP's massive oil spill disaster has been a challenge for journalists given the numerous restrictions placed by BP and in many cases, local law enforcement and federal officials. But reporting on the spill and the clean-up efforts just got even harder. Last week the Coast Guard put new restrictions in place across the Gulf Coast that prevent the public--including photographers and reporters covering the BP oil spill--from coming within 65 feet of any response vessels or booms on the water or on beaches.[includes rush transcript]

  • Let's see, this new restriction is being justified under the pretense that it will protect the safety of the reporters, and those doing the clean up work. We have journalists, all over the world, who do freelance reporting on wars and conflicts, as well as those embedded with the U.S. military. In war there is a life threatening situation every minute and we still allow them to report, and now such journalists are too fragile to go near an oil spill. This lie is so transparent

  • SECRECY is the friend of TYRANNY. Since BP is an unindicted co-conspirator they should also be held criminally responsible for this anti-democracy, anti-American action. The Media, as ineffective as they are, is considered the FIRST defense against tyrannical corporations and their governmental allies.

  • id want to see what my tax dollars are going to. i always thought america was about freedom. i guess that dream died. and a felony for walking on a gulf? i also thought it was illegal to deny access to a public area.

  • In a way it was a blessing Anderson wasn't allowed to go in or near. We now know they would have gotten just as sick as the workers they rotated for healthier ones. What is the world waiting for . Round up all the BP executives and arrest them. Don't let them get away. It wont reverse the damage but they can't get away with this. Go Get them!!!!!! Many people will suffer & die from this more than we realize today. Tomorrow is so grim.

  • if the reporters would report about WMD`s in Iraq they would get to film them from a distance of 1-2 feet...

  • Actually Anderson is wrong. The free media is the enemy because of course this is a false flag attack. This is no accident this is a takeover attack just like 911. So the elite powers and the tyrants need to keep the media controlled. They don't like people talking. JFK warned us of this in his speech about the secret powers.

  • "Logical thing to do" is throw all of their asses out of office! It's obvious they could careless about America or the American people.

  • throw more pelicans

    in the oil ....

    they seem to absorb

    that oil pretty good...

  • @Mahoivlich and spy cameras.

  • obama is done for president he is only going to be a one term president. it would probably be a good time to start a third party, because you will only get more of the same with the republicans. vote for ralph nader he will get to the bottom of this shit.
