Wow, that's a cool truck, I have a 78' F-150 Custom Explorer (Explorer was a trim package offered on these trucks, you could get it on Custom or Ranger trucks), the guy forgot to mention that in 1978 they did have Lariat trucks too. And an easier way to get more top end out of it would be a smaller ring gear and pinion in the axles rather than a transmission swap. Those 4-speeds with granny gears are nice for steep terrain...
