  • i wonders if bill chose this trio to be main ones than lafaro and motian,

what kind of jazz tributes, bill would give us

  • @Spimp4 It's hard to characterize genres with concrete characteristics. That's why Miles hated the word jazz. It's true that bebop often has a lot of chords whizzing by at fast speeds, and virtuoso level of improvised soloing and comping on top, but honestly a lot of music fits that description that simply isn't bebop. It's a sound, the bebop sound, that is far easier to describe through listening to bebop than it is to say it in words.

  • @supahsekzy he always swings his ass off though!

  • @supahsekzy I love philly man, and I dig what he's doing conceptually but I think he may have done a little too much heroin before this session lol. not saying I could do better

  • @Marshall2312 lol dude I honestly think you don't know what you're talking about. He wasn't even talking about bill negative in any way.

  • @supahsekzy It's three on four. Half Note Triplets.

  • @prsshred39 Yeah, I'm sure there's reason behind it - jazz players never play anything without a reason. Just saying it's not my favorite accompaniment to bill.

  • @supahsekzy

i know your comment was from almost a year ago, but what philly joe is playing makes sense. he does a rhythmic overlay of three over four. he takes his drumming from 4/4 to 3/4 while bill and sam stay in 4. the two meters cycle until they meet again and philly joe reenters with 4/4 swing. he does a lot of this in this tune

  • @2boddah This is jazz. And that was a misplaced question mark. Don't let it happen again.

  • @Guruburu82: That's Philly Joe Jones on drums and Sam Jones on bass.
