The final volume of a three part chapbook series by Christopher K.P. Brown, 25 To Life is a collection of 25 poems that center around Americas prison system. The title, 25 To Life, also speaks to the fact that Brown, now at the age of 25, has chosen to dedicate his life to his poetry which is why this chapbook is being released on the poets 25th birthday, July 6, 2009.

Poems in the collection take us into Americas prison system and specifically give us a view into the life of Black males in Americas prison throughout the history of this country.. In Ken Griffey Was A Junior he states:

hood still infiltrated
we get caught by undercovers
who get paid by the same government
that placed the drugs here
its the win/win
cause when I get to the pen
theyll profit from my labor
we get exploited again

While his previous chapbooks focused on the African American community (Harlem 65) and the industry of spoken word (New Day), 25 To Life has a much more personal feel. In this collection Brown writes on some themes that he usually tries to avoid such as love and relationships. In Me, At 25 he states:

Honestly
Ive never been in what you would call love
never had a girl feel as strongly about me
as I did about her
balance is hard to find
patient is easy for me to be
and sometimes
love seems so old school
but I still say fresh
and dope
end conversations with peace
might turn off the radio
and pop in Run DMC
specifically, Rock Box
so I guess Im old school
as Im sure shell be

As always, Brown focuses on the themes of modern society with poems like Claiming What We Lost which focuses on the recent passing of Michael Jackson. Majors & Minors focuses on what it means to graduate from college in the middle of a recession.

While 25 To Life is the final chapter in Browns 2009 chapbook series, this collection not only marks the completion of a trilogy but it also marks the beginning of Christopher K.P. Browns career as a full time poet. 25 To Life.
