Super Bowl City: Welcome To New York!

Just a little something I threw together to celebrate New York / New Jersey getting selected as the first-ever cold weather City without a dome to host the Super Bowl. Super Bowl XLVIII will take place at the New Meadowlands Stadium (home to both The New York Giants and The New York Jets) on February 2, 2014. Many pundits contend that this is some sort of nod to or payback for a franchise (Giants) and metro area whose owner, Mr. Wellington Mara, championed the issue of revenue sharing, thereby ensuring the survival of Pro Football in modern American sports culture, making this sport the multi-billion dollar industry that it is today. Being a media Mecca, having NYC host this kind of event, traditionally held in warm-weather locales - despite NY being a cold-weather area - seemed a natural fit! This video celebrates the City, the new stadium, both pro teams, their die-hard fans as well as the long and storied history of the NFL (along with some AFL thrown in for good measure). Iconic images of NFL greats past, along with images from legendary Super Bowl and playoff moments are featured as well. This is my way of saying "Welcome To New York" to one of the most heralded of all championships: The NFL's very own SUPER BOWL!

The song used for this slide show / music video is "Welcome To New York" by NYC's Lower East Side punk rockers and pioneering indie artists, The Baghdaddios. This song was used by permission, © 1996 by Kenn Rowell, BMI.

One last note: during the guitar solo break, I placed photos of artists who I heard discussed on New York sports radio as possible Super Bowl Halftime Show performers under consideration: Bruce Springsteen (with Little Steven), Jon Bon Jovi, Jay Z, Billy Joel - and two more thrown in for personal reasons: The Ramones (because, to me, they were the quintessential NYC band, THAT'S why!) and The Baghdaddios (because, hey, they WROTE the song!). Special thanks to all-time great photog, Bob Gruen for that shot of The Ramones in from of none other than New York's very own C.B.G.B. (at the corner of Bleecker & Bowery)!

@TheBaghdaddiosRule1 Thanks, Buddy! Yeah, I put this up late this past week and the response has been incredible! Been contacted by 5 DJs (one commercial station, the rest college or online) who wanted the song - I forwarded their contact info on to Kenn. It's been reposted on a couple of Facebook pages. Not bad, huh?

Oh and the "other guy"? Just some narrow mind with a narrow opinion. He's already been blocked. NEXT!

Man, go away for a week and you miss all the fireworks! First of all, GREAT song - one of my fave Baghdaddios tunes! Second, who's the guy, hatin' on the song? Everybody knows Jersey and New York are in it together! I don't get it!
