Snake Charmer Oboe Concerto
I. Arrival of the Maharaj
"This Concerto is based on the story of an Indian Maharajah's snake charmer courtier. The first movement opens with a grand musical quote that audiences would be familiar with, as they usually associate this melody with India and snake charmers. The Oboe's first entrance is not a statement of theme, but instead preparatory for the upcoming arrival of the Maharajah, which is then stated with the flourish of a large fanfare. However, upon arrival, he is not as regal as one would expect..."
David Papp with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra
Conducted by Sarah Penicka Smith
Performed in Concert 11/12/11 at The Concourse Concert Hall, Chatswood, Sydney.
