Just finished this novel for the 1000000 time. It rocks. It`s amazing. It`s way better than fucking Leo Tolstoy!

Those who say that there is no connection between U2 and cyberpunk don't know what they're talking about, just watch their Zoo TV Tour. Back in the Achtung Baby/Zooropa area, they were really obsessed with the idea of being overwhelmed by information and technology, being lost in all this mess. Songs like The Fly, Zoo Station, Numb, Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car or Zooropa have a real cyberpunk feel. Their collaboration with Brian Eno on Original Soundtrack 1 is a good exemple as well !

U2 anc cyberpunk. No connectoin, But if Bono like Gibson`s work so he has right to read that very first sentence of the book. I love the stgarting of this novel, so why Bono cant? He has the same right to love it. Gibson is the genious. For many. I love his work. Dot.

i've always preferred mona lisa overdrive. though i like all of the books in the trilogy. i guess it's the title mona lisa overdrive, just so gorgeous, and that because it was published the year i was born

Bono was even later to Neuromancer than me. It had the same effect. As noirish as it was Gibson hasn't even come close to the reality nightmare that makes up daily life of thousands of ppl across the world who r being ground up in the wood chipper that is the modern day offspring of MK-ULTRA. Check it out on Wiki. You'll notice the the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski was one of the volunteers at Harvard. IMO Franklin Jones (Bubba Free John) & definately Ken Kesey were volunteers on the coast for LSD

Bono is a tremendous William Gibson fan. The Achtung Baby era has much evidence of this. For his next tour, Bono invited Willian Gibson to come along with him. They inspired each other. Bono created Zooropa (if you can't hear the influence... you're deaf), and William Gibson wrote Idoru. In Idoru, much of the action revolved around a rock band called LoRez which was obviously supposed to be U2. Rez, the rock star that falls in love with a hologram, is Bono.

Yep, like 25 years ago. XD remember case is supposed to be 23. But I know what you mean and I agree. Bono from the achtung baby era would have been great.

in what way was U2 inspired by Neuromancer <.< their music doesn't sound even remotly cyberpunk. Cyberpunk music is like, Darkside DnB and Trip Hop

As I said it was the early nineties. U2 was influenced by the techno decadenece concepts of the novel. The band developed a sudden turn from the acoustic & blues songs of Joshua Tree to the cutting edge digital sound technologies of Achtung Baby and Zooropa. Anyway you should listen to the experimentation in the trip hop genere by The Edge $ Lanois during the nineties.

If you want to know what I mean with visual influence, watch "The Fly", "Until the end of the world" and " "Even better than the Real Thing" videos, and you'll see what I mean. If you like cyberpunk stuff, watch "Bin ans ende der welt" (Until the end of the world) a Wim Wenders Film. I'ts quite different from other cyberpunk or sci-fi movies but I liked it. U2 played the soundtrack by the way.

This is part of the documentary film "No maps for these territories" (2000). And I've read in interviews that U2 was deeply influenced by the book Neuromancer in the early nineties. It influenced their music and their look. Also the song in the background of this excerpt is named "Chiba City Blues" composed by Edge it takes the title from the first chapter of the book.
