can't believe people walk in front of the camera..some of them right in front and stop..

@caterpillarnut, you do know that blowby from the crankcase can sometimes come out the clutch pulley right?
-
If he was burning the clutch the engine would rev up, not pull down like that!
-
You got that right
-
that shows how mucth u know about two cylinders...
-
Hook up an 830 and you will really have a party

i was always told to twist or roll the belt to keep it on the pulleys and help reduce the galloping in the belt that these 2 cylinder deeres can do. dad bought a belt after it walked off the clutch pulley then the baker fan blades tore it up. expensive lesson!

Oh yeah. I've seen those big steam engines wind them up like airplane propellers. If it wasn't anchored, it'd take off like a helicopter.
I'd like to build a baker fan but I'm not skilled enough to know how to made one.

Baker fans do go a tad better if being operated by steam

I was there when this video was taken, just to the right of the frame. If you look at the area near the belt pulley in the video, you will see some smoke. There was a LOT more that was produced over the course of the pull. He had it on the fan for about 5-7 minutes, smoking all the while. I'd bet good money that 10 years of life was taken out of the clutch.

Hey Nut!
Ten years? That might be a little much. Those clutches are pretty heavy duty, and it was only doing what it was designed to do. Also my crank seals are bad so there is blowby smoke there all the time.
Somthing interesting about this JD clutch, it's inside the belt pully. The frictions are just big rings you drop in. You can change the clutch in a few minutes with a crescent wrench. No engines or transmissions to remove.
I wish everything was so simple! :)
