For instance if the heat wouldn't be transferred efficiently away from F1 disc brakes, the brakes would be broken very fast, because of high temperature. In F1 it's very important that the breaks are kept at certain temperature range - too low or too high and it doesn't function properly. This F1 example isn't very mundane, but gives you the clue.
